The Maryland Soccer Legends is sad to report the passing of Maryland Soccer Icon, Tom Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a 1990 inductee to the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame and served the Legends organization for many years as its secretary and chairman of the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
Mr. Bailey played soccer at then Loyola College and was selected for their athletic hall of fame. He proceeded to play and coach amateur soccer both with adults and children. In 1974, he founded the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) which is a currently thriving organization and a leading force in the growth and promotion of youth soccer in the state of Maryland. Mr. Bailey was considered to be very aware of the needs of physically and mentally challenged young players and was very active with the Maryland Special Olympics Committee. His presence and his major contribution to the game will be sorely missed in the Maryland Soccer world, The Board and the Members of The Maryland Soccer Legends extend our deepest condolences to his family.
