On December 12th, loyal member of the Oldtimers/Maryland Soccer Legends, Joseph Taymans, passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old. Joe was a graduate of Mr. St. Josephs and Towson State College and a long-time educator in both Baltimore City and County. He taught science for 19 years at Patterson High School and coached the varsity soccer team in the 1960's. Under his leadership, the Clippers won four straight MSSA championships. He later moved on to coach at Essex Community College and eventually went into school administration. At his retirement from education in 1988, he was serving as a vice principal at Pikesville Senior High School.
After he retired, he purchased and rehabbed Happy Shak in northern Baltimore County which became his permanent residence in 2002. Joe was the recipient of the 2002 Dr. John A. Schmid Award for his service to soccer. He is survived by his son, Josephs Jr., his daughter Patricia and granddaughter Jessica Marie. His wife Helen passed away in 2001.
